Finding somewhere to play should be easier than learning your next strategy game. In Essen, roll & DINE puts food and board games together under one roof, while the Unperfekthaus offers a different approach: shared space for groups who organise their own activities. These are two useful starting points for a gaming visit in 2026, depending on whether you want a ready-made games bistro or somewhere to meet fellow players.
1. roll & DINE — a bistro built around board games
Start here if choosing a game is as important as choosing dinner. roll & DINE invites visitors to use its game collection and offers help with selection. Solo guests are welcome, and the website points newcomers towards community events as a way to meet other players. Its programme includes the Wednesday “Brettwoch” gathering, prototype testing, and Sunday meetups. There are also separately organised role-playing and social-deduction sessions. Browse the booking calendar before deciding which evening suits you; an ordinary table visit and a hosted event can offer quite different experiences.

Take another game home after your Essen outing: Airport Madness Manager brings Munich Airport (MUC) to your table.
Explore the MUC Edition2. Unperfekthaus — space for a community games day
Prefer to make an afternoon of it with a group? The Unperfekthaus is a creative and community venue rather than a dedicated board game café. Its admission includes a coffee and soft-drink flat rate, with food available separately. A player-run group organises board game gatherings here, bringing the games and arranging the sessions independently. Check that group’s event listing for the actual meeting time and sign-up details; general access to the building does not mean a hosted games table will be waiting.
Address: Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 18–26, 45127 Essen

Which Essen option fits your plans?
Choose roll & DINE for an on-site collection, a bistro setting, and events focused on playing. The Unperfekthaus makes more sense when you want to join an advertised community gathering or arrange a session with your own group. Both reward a little planning, especially if meeting new opponents is part of the appeal.
Planning Your Visit
- Use roll & DINE’s reservation calendar to distinguish open meetups from specialist events.
- For the Unperfekthaus, check the player-run group’s attendance instructions as well as the venue’s admission terms.
- Ask about the current menu and any dietary requirements when booking.
- Recheck opening arrangements shortly before travelling.
